A little bit about myself....

My  name is Daniela Balderas, and I have been living in Phoenix for three years. I am nineteen years old, and was raised as an only child by a single mother. Unfortunately, my dad passed away when I was an infant. I am very proud of coming from a humble Hispanic family, and being the first one in my family to graduate from high school. I hope to set an example for the younger generations in my family.  After graduating from high school I decided to attend Phoenix College, and this is my fifth and last semester at PC and as a S-STEM Scholar.
My first year at PC I was undecided about my mayor. However, once I took my first chemistry class, I felt in love with chemistry, and  realized that I wanted a career in this STEM field. After some thinking, I decided to pursue a bachelor's degree in chemistry. I want to attend graduate school, and I am looking towards programs that have a concentration on green chemistry. What is green Chemistry?? Well, it is an emerging sub-field in chemistry that focuses on product and processes that minimize the use of hazardous substances. If I work hard, someday I will become an expert in this field, and contribute to the development of sustainable chemical products such as fertilizer, detergents etc...
